In our fast-paced, ever-connected world, it’s easy to accumulate spiritual & energetic clutter that weighs us down. Just as we cleanse our bodies & homes, our spiritual selves also need regular purification to maintain balance & clarity. Spiritual cleansing is an honored practice found in various cultures, aimed at clearing negative energy, restoring inner peace, & inviting healing. Whether it's through sacred rituals, nature-based tools, or meditative practices, spiritual cleansing allows us to release what no longer serves us & reconnect with our higher purpose, creating space for renewal & growth.
Spiritual cleansing is essential because it helps to maintain balance, clarity, & a sense of inner peace in a world full of distractions, stress, & negative influences. Throughout our day-to-day lives, we naturally pick up energetic residue from our surroundings, interactions with others, & even our own thoughts & emotions. This accumulated energy can create blockages, disrupt our flow, & lead to feelings of heaviness, confusion, or emotional overwhelm.

Recognize the Impact of Lingering Negative Energy
Energy blockages or lingering negative energy in the body can have profound effects on our physical, emotional, & mental well-being. Since our energy field is closely linked to our physical body, disruptions in our spiritual energy can manifest in various ways, affecting our health, mood, & overall quality of life.
Here are some common ways these blockages might show up:
Physical Illness or Pain
When energy becomes stagnant or blocked in specific areas of the body, it can manifest as physical symptoms, including illness or chronic pain. For example, an energy blockage in the heart chakra might result in tightness in the chest or circulation issues, while blockages in the root chakra can create issues with the legs, lower back, or digestive system. Over time, these blockages can weaken the body’s natural defenses & immune system, making you more susceptible to illness or ongoing health problems.
Emotional Imbalance & Mood Swings
Negative energy stored in the body can lead to emotional turbulence. You might experience unexplained mood swings, feelings of frustration, anxiety, or depression. Emotional imbalances often arise when we hold onto unresolved emotions, such as anger, grief, or fear, that create energetic blockages in our system. These unprocessed emotions can alter our outlook, making it difficult to feel joy, peace, or connection with others.
Changes in Attitude or Behavior
Persistent negative energy can weigh on the mind, leading to changes in attitude, outlook, or behavior. You may feel more irritable, unmotivated, or find yourself reacting more negatively to situations. Blockages often disconnect us from our intuition & inner wisdom, leaving us feeling lost, ungrounded, & out of alignment with our purpose.
Sleep Disruptions
Energy blockages can disturb your sleep cycle, leading to insomnia, restless nights, or frequent waking. Negative energy can keep your mind & body in a heightened state of stress, making it difficult to relax or fully recharge. When energy is blocked, especially in the head or throat areas, you may experience overactive thoughts, nightmares, or a sense of unease that disrupts your sleep patterns.
Mental Fog & Lack of Clarity
Energy blockages can create mental fog, making it hard to focus or concentrate on daily tasks. This lack of clarity can manifest as forgetfulness, confusion, or indecisiveness. Since mental energy is closely tied to the third eye & crown chakras, blockages here can lead to disconnection from intuition, creative flow, & a broader sense of purpose.
Difficulty in Relationships
Negative energy can affect your relationships by altering how you interact with others. Energy blockages in the heart chakra, for example, can make it harder to give & receive love, leading to misunderstandings, isolation, or conflicts with loved ones. When blocked, we may project unresolved emotions onto others or struggle to maintain healthy boundaries, which creates further discord in relationships.
Increased Stress & Anxiety
Energy blockages often keep the body & mind in a constant state of stress, as if the nervous system is always on high alert. This can cause tension in the body, shallow breathing, or an overall sense of unease that makes it hard to relax. When the energy isn’t flowing freely, the body may respond by releasing stress hormones, leading to heightened anxiety & an inability to feel calm or grounded.
Lack of Motivation or Purpose
When negative energy accumulates in the body, it can make you feel disconnected from your inner drive & motivation. Energy blockages can make it difficult to feel inspired or excited about life, leading to procrastination, a lack of focus, or an overall sense of stagnation. Over time, this can cause you to lose touch with your purpose & spiritual path, creating a sense of dissatisfaction.
Financial or Career Struggles
Energy blockages in the lower chakras, particularly the root & sacral chakras, can manifest as financial instability or career struggles. These chakras govern security, stability, & creativity. When blocked, it can feel difficult to manifest abundance, attract opportunities, or maintain motivation in your work or business.
By recognizing these signs, we can begin to address & heal energetic blockages before they manifest into larger problems. Regular spiritual cleansing helps release negative energy & restore the free flow of life force energy, supporting overall wellness & balance in all areas of life.

Spiritual Cleansing Practices
By making spiritual cleansing a regular practice, we ensure that we are consistently releasing these energies before they have a chance to take root & negatively impact our well-being. It allows us to let go of negativity, limiting beliefs, & stagnant emotions, creating space for renewal & growth. Regular spiritual cleansing supports mental clarity, emotional stability, & physical vitality, helping us align more closely with our true selves & spiritual path. When done routinely, it becomes a tool for self-care, helping us stay grounded, protected, & connected to the higher vibrations of peace, love, & purpose.
Here are some common ways to perform a spiritual cleansing on yourself or incorporate it into your self care routine:
Smudging with Sacred Herbs
Burning sacred herbs like sage, incense, palo santo, sweetgrass, or herbal blends is an ancient practice used to clear negative energy. The smoke purifies your space, body, & spirit. Simply light the herb, let it smolder, & use the smoke to cleanse your surroundings & aura, focusing on areas that feel energetically heavy.
Spiritual Baths & Showers
Incorporating herbs, flowers, essential oils, & natural salts in your bath or shower with the intention of purification can enhance the cleansing process. As the water washes over you, imagine it taking away any energetic residue & leaving you refreshed. Spiritual baths are a powerful way to not only remove current energy blockages but also help heal ancestral trauma.
Crystals
Crystals are potent spiritual tools that can absorb, transmute, & cleanse energy. Some, like black obsidian, selenite, or clear quartz, are especially known for their cleansing properties. You can hold crystals during meditation, place them on your body, or keep them in your space to help remove unwanted energies & promote positive vibrations.
Cleansing Sprays
Blends of herbs, essential oils, & water (such as our Limpieza Sagrada or Florida Water) can be used as powerful tools for spiritual cleansing. These sprays are designed to purify your energy & surroundings without smoke. Simply spritz them around your aura, in your home, or on sacred objects to clear away negativity, invite protection, & uplift the vibration of your space. The combination of ingredients creates a potent cleansing effect, while the scent adds an extra layer of healing & refreshment.
Sound Healing
The vibrations from sound healing tools like Tibetan singing bowls, tuning forks, or bells help break up stagnant energy. You can use sound to cleanse your space, aura, or chakras by playing these instruments, allowing the vibrations to resonate throughout your energy field.
Visualization & Meditation
Through visualization, you can mentally cleanse yourself by imagining a white or golden light surrounding you, washing away any negative energy. Meditation helps you reconnect with your higher self, clear mental & emotional blockages, & bring a sense of peace & renewal. You can enhance this practice by using essential meditation oils to ground the spirit.
Moon Rituals
Harnessing the energy of the Full or New Moon can be a powerful way to cleanse spiritually. Under the Moon’s light, you can release what no longer serves you through rituals such as writing down negative thoughts or feelings & burning them, or simply meditating under the moonlight to let go of energetic burdens.
Nature Connection
Spending time in nature is a grounding way to cleanse spiritually. Walking barefoot on the Earth, spending time near water, or even sitting under a tree can help you release built-up energy, reconnect with the natural world, & restore balance. Take this time to be mindful, present, grateful & focus on breathing.
Breathwork
Intentional breathing, such as deep belly breathing or “box” breathing, can be a quick way to cleanse your energy. Focusing on the breath helps release stress & tension, clearing mental & emotional blockages.
Prayer or Affirmations
Engaging in prayer or repeating positive affirmations can help cleanse the mind, body, & spirit. Prayer connects you with the Divine or higher power, offering you a sense of peace & protection, while affirmations can shift your energy & clear negative patterns.
Each of these methods works in its own way to remove negativity, restore balance, & invite in positive energy, & they can be combined to create a more powerful cleansing ritual. Incorporating these practices regularly ensures that you remain aligned, clear, & energetically protected.

Cleansing Prayer for Renewal & Protection
If you find it challenging to navigate a self-cleansing ritual, simply begin with a prayer for guidance & protection. You can use this prayer to help set your intention & invite in Divine support, allowing you to release what no longer serves you & embrace renewal. As you speak these words, trust your intuition to lead the way. Whether through movement, breath, or tools like crystals & herbs, follow what feels right for you in the moment. Remember, your connection to spirit is unique, & this prayer is a powerful starting point to help you cleanse with clarity & ease.
"Divine light, surround me & guide me.
With every breath, I release all that no longer serves me.
May negative energy be cleared & dissolved,
Restoring balance, peace, & harmony within.
I call upon the pure energy of love & protection
To fill my heart, my spirit, & my space.
I am renewed, I am grounded, I am free.
So it is."

What is a Spiritual Hangover?
After spiritual gathering, classes, or healings, many of us experience shifts in our energy fields, often entering a period of growth & transformation. This transition can manifest in various ways … For some, this time is filled with enthusiasm & excitement, attracting more positivity & creating a sense of effortless flow. We might find ourselves communicating in new ways & feeling a subtle anxiety as we navigate changes. This period is marked by openness, with others responding to us in refreshing, unexpected ways.
For others, the experience is one of motivation & productivity. We may feel driven to reorganize our personal & professional spaces, tackling unfinished tasks with renewed energy. While we might not yet be comfortable with new forms of communication, we are quietly contemplating how to establish these new connections as we work.
It is also possible that this period can bring about emotional, physical, & intellectual fatigue, often referred to as a "spiritual hangover" or "energy depletion syndrome." During this time, we may feel fragile & vulnerable, easily moved to tears, & possibly even slightly depressed. Our interactions with others can be sensitive as we are in the midst of redefining ourselves. We may crave tender, loving care, & feel overly sensitive to the words & actions of others. This heightened sensitivity can lead us to revert to old patterns, blaming ourselves or others for misunderstandings or harsh tones.
As we move through this growth period, it is important to connect our third chakra (associated with personal power) with our fifth chakra (associated with communication). We can observe how we may have taken responsibility for someone else's pain by blaming ourselves, & then deflected that pain by blaming them — falling into old judgmental patterns toward ourselves & others. It's not uncommon to feel discouraged or depressed during this time, feeling as though we've regressed after progress was made.

This moment presents a valuable opportunity to feel & process our emotions, to understand what we truly want & need from these experiences. While the urge may be to retreat or to vent to others as a way of deflecting pain, this is an opportunity to observe & break free from old patterns.
Remember that each of us evolves in our unique way. It's important to give ourselves the time & space to heal & grow. This may include self care practices, spending quiet time with music, singing, dancing, writing, eating nourishing foods, & spending time with loved ones. Attending supportive meditation sessions can also be helpful, as these provide a gentle, nurturing environment.
Always remember that you are a peaceful spirit within a human body. This human form requires nourishment, clarity, & emotional care, while the spirit within nurtures truth, beginning with energy. Embrace this time of growth with compassion for yourself & others, & trust in the journey of your spiritual evolution.
~ Blessings!
